How To Grow Red Roselle / Erra Gongura
Pot Size :
You Can use 18*9 or 24*9 Inch Grow bag for growing Red Roselle. If you want to grow in Plastic pot use minimum 9 Inch pot . The wider pots / Grow Bags will provide more space and more nutrient to the plant .
Soil Requirements:
Red Roselle / Erra Gongura needs moist but well-drained, Overly rich soil and extra fertilization. Use soil mix with combination of Red Soil , Vermicompost and Cocopeat at a ratio of (2:1:1) . Also add 2-5% of Neem Powder to the soil mix. Neem Powder will act as fungicide.
Sowing Red Roselle Seeds : Sow Red Roselle Seeds / Erra Gongura Seeds ¼ inches deep and 6 inches of space for each plant while sowing seeds. it’s important to give Roselle a lot of space. It requires temperatures between 75°- 85°F to germinate but germinates readily outdoors making it an ideal candidate for direct sowing.
Light requirements:
Red Roselle will grow well in Full sunlight, It will also grow in afternoon shade. At least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight per a day should be provided for healthy growth.
Water Requirements:
Water the Red Roselle plants gently and thoroughly. Regular watering early in the day is advised. If the temperature is higher than 35 Degrees water it twice . Excess watering will cause in Root rot for any plant , so you need have proper drainage system in your container . Make sure that Excess water will drain properly .
Common issues:
Red Roselle / Erra Gongura is easy to grow plant . Red Roselle doesn’t tend to get affected by too many pests and diseases. But there is a possibility of pest to attack the plant like Cercospora Leaf Spot, powdery spots on the top sides of older leaves, but quickly covers whole leaves. Harvesting: Red Roselle leaves can be harvested in 50-60 days from seed plantation.
